Visiting Rincón in the Summer? Here’s What to Do!

Rincón, Puerto Rico is nothing short of beautiful all year round. And while many tourists tend to flock to Puerto Rico during the winter months to escape the cold, the summer months in Puerto Rico bring with them their own special energy.

In honor of this season, we thought we’d share our insights along with a few of our favorite activities to do in Rincón during the summer months. If you’re visiting Rincón in the summer, use this as a guide, and if you haven’t book your trip yet, use this to help you decide if you want a summer or winter vacation to Puerto Rico.

1. Snorkeling

Unlike the winter months that bring swell and surfers to Rincón, the summer months typically translate to a calmer ocean. Less wave action makes great conditions for snorkeling the beautiful reefs from Maria’s, just out back, all the way to Tres Palmas Marine Reserve. Swim with tropical fish, check out the “Pistons” out back, and experience the beauty and diversity that is Tres Palmas Marine Reserve. You never know, you may get lucky and swim with a sea turtle! Learn more about Tres Palmas Marine Reserve in Stoked’s Guide to Tres Palmas here

Tip: Bring your own snorkel gear or coordinate with our onsite concierge to rent gear and/or to book a snorkel tour excursion. Remember to never touch the wildlife or stand on the reef.

2. Paddle Boarding

Because there tends to be less wave action during the summer months, it’s also a great time of year to rent a paddle board and explore the beautiful coastline. Seeing the greenery and the luscious hills of Rincón from the perspective of the water is truly something else — something that every visitor should experience! Our favorite place to paddle board in the summer is right out back. From Maria’s Beach you can paddle north around Indicators, the cliffs of El Faro, and head towards Domes and Pools Beaches. Or, from Maria’s Luxury Villa, paddle south and explore the colors and the beauty of the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve from above.

Tip: Check out RD2H at Sandy Beach or Rincón Paddle Boards located at the Black Eagle Marina (just a short walk from our Villa) for paddle board rentals and tours. Our onsite concierge can also help coordinate paddle board rentals and tours.

3. Cool Down at the River

Take a half day (or a full day) trip to the mountainous interior and explore one of Puerto Rico’s many rivers and waterfalls. The Gozalandia Waterfalls in San Sebastián are less than an hours drive from Rincón. We share more about the San Sebastián Waterfalls in our recent blog post here. For our more adventurous guests, our onsite concierge can help you to coordinate an excursion with an experienced guide to a less crowded (aka more secretive) waterfall or river just a short drive from the Villa and Rincón. While we are in a beautiful corner of the island, there is truly so much to see and do across Puerto Rico.

Tip: Keep your eyes on the weather. Be careful in rivers and around waterfalls if there has been heavy rains. Flash floods can happen quickly! If you’re unsure, hire a local guide.

4. Slow Down and Enjoy the Summer Vibes

Above all, we highly recommend taking advantage of the slower rhythm that the summer months bring. Less tourists equal quiet, empty beaches and afternoon rain showers make the perfect backdrop for rest, relaxation, and cuddling up with a good book. We have plenty of indoor, outdoor, and cozy lounging space here at Maria’s Luxury Villa. With a pool, beach access, light daily housekeeping, and an onsite concierge — you don’t even have to leave the grounds to have a perfect and relaxing vacation. We can help you coordinate groceries, chef services, guides, excursions, private wellness sessions, massage therapy services, and more… If you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation (with something for everyone) we highly recommend planning a summer vacation to Maria’s Luxury Villa.
